Homeland Security Attorney Chris Duncan
Announces City Council Campaign
Duncan says he’ll be an independent voice for San Clemente
SAN CLEMENTE, CA – Chris Duncan, a Homeland Security attorney and former federal prosecutor, announced today that he is running for City Council in San Clemente. Duncan said he is running for City Council because the city needs someone who will end the gridlock and bring a fresh perspective to the issues facing our community.
Duncan, who spent more than 16 years at the Department of Homeland Security until he left last year, worked under both Republican and Democratic administrations. He focused on a wide range of topics, including immigration, customs, civil and criminal investigations, intellectual property protection, labor, ethics, and disclosure of information.
“I’m running for City Council to stand up for our community’s core values. As a public servant, I’ve dedicated myself to strengthening our economy, protecting our communities, and improving our quality of life. My experience in DHS working on emergency preparedness will be invaluable to the city, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 public health crisis we are currently battling.”
“Some of our leaders at City Hall are more concerned with political theater than getting results for our communities. San Clemente residents deserve a representative who will bring independence and integrity to the job – fighting for what’s right instead of what’s expedient.”
At DHS, Duncan won several awards for his work defending our borders from terrorists, penalizing foreign companies for trade violations, and working with elected officials from both parties, private businesses, and outside organizations to get things done. Chris also took on governmental corruption; investigating officials who put personal gain ahead of their duties and training hundreds of law enforcement officers and agents on how to spot and report ethical violations. Additionally, he served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, where he prosecuted criminal and national security cases.
He is a graduate of California public schools and holds law degrees from Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Hawaii School of Law, and a B.A. in Political Science from Boston College. He lives in Talega with his wife, Haley, who runs a home-based business, and his three kids, who attend Vista Del Mar Elementary School.
